I started The Dragon's Leaf in a time of uncertainty in my life. I had been injured from a previous work place who denied my leave and denied payment for my subsequent injury. One complication led to another and at the end of the year I had faced 4-5 concussions leaving my mental state in disarray. I tried to finish courses at App State University but I was stunned at how hard school now was for me. I couldn't focus, the lights in the classrooms terrorized my senses leaving me with migraines, headaches, and dizzy spells. Nights on the computer, trying to read 50 pages of a sociological theory, left me in tears. Taking tests got harder, I couldn't write, my hands shook, my eyes blurred. Worst of all I couldn't remember anything. Every reading or term learned flew out the window and I could barely remember when my friends told me they wanted to see me.
I dropped out. I had to take a break. Thus I started my journey and creation of The Dragons Leaf. I was left in a dark room constantly with my left eye constantly blacking out. I couldn't stand it so I threw myself into any hobby I could find. One opportunity that fell into my lap was the creation of a public garden in my apartment complex and so I did just that. With the help of another garden enthusiast we had a start up garden and I realized how much better I felt getting outside... even though I had a few close calls with blacking out on the ground. My friends supported me through it all and helped build something we were proud of. Then I started studying on my own! Studying! Can you believe it? It didn't matter how tired I was, I wanted to read books about houseplants, landscaping, and even botany. That's when I knew I had found something I wanted to do. I started thinking about what kind of garden store Boone didn't have and here I am. I told my friends, I told my mom, and I even told my dog.
The Dragons Leaf.
An online business (to start) that would bring together my love of plants and art. It will be dedicated to the advocation of plant care, mental health, and endangered species! It was then the only thing I wanted or could to focus on. I felt mentally clear when I worked on it. I am still recovering and learning my limits but now I have a goal and a love of doing what I do. Follow to watch this journey and donate to support my cause!
It's small and I'm the only worker right now. But I implore you, have faith. I am trying to start my classes again and restarting my educational journey pursuing knowledge to back my business! If you have any inspirational words to tell me or helpful information you want to share please do!
The donations I have received through my GoFundMe are the only reason I have made it to where I am so thank you! You have made this possible!
